The piece
The second half of Op. 62 opens Lento sostenuto with a broad melody, in an almost choral texture where the inner voices matter as much as the tune. The middle section, marked agitato, changes character: the voices draw closer and chase one another, with sixteenth notes passing between the parts in true counterpoint, before the opening theme returns and fades away, as printed in the first Leipzig edition.
The left hand takes most of the leaps (73 of 81) and octaves (67 of 75): in the agitated section it must move from a bass octave to an inner voice without breaking the legato. Mark the held notes, since the pedal is what sustains them, and change it often so the counterpoint stays clear. One chord spans 17 semitones and several others exceed the octave; roll them naturally. Finally, the slow tempo makes every unevenness audible for more than five and a half minutes, so think in long phrases rather than single bars. Fading out the falling notes is a good way to move gradually towards reading this polyphony from the score.
